Lough Dan Scout Centre is in the perfect location for people walking the Wicklow Way or groups doing their Gaisce expeditions. The actual route runs along the edge of the campsite at Old Bridge. Use Lough Dan as an overnight camp site or stay in the hostel if you want to travel light. We are situated only 16km or 5 – 6hrs from Crone Wood O 193 142 a popular starting point for many walking the Wicklow Way to the south and not far from Knockree Youth Hostel. We are an even shorter distance from Glendalough – Laragh at 9 km or 3-4 hours. It is a way marked trail so route finding is easy and no great skill in mountain navigation is required.
Moonlight Hike. The Wicklow Way is an ideal overnight expedition route for scouts and school groups doing their Gaisce or Chief Scout’s Awards. Navigation is secure it being along a way marked trail. Road Walking is minimal with most of the Wicklow Way trail going over forest tracks and fantastic mountain scenery much of which is part of the Wicklow Mountains National Park.
