School Tours

We have options for activity day trips for junior schools as well as over night stays either camping or staying in the hostel for secondary students. We only cater for school groups mid week during term times. We use an external provider called the adventure project (formerly known as Outdoor Adventure Ireland) to provide and run the activities.

The center is ideally situated for the completion of the Adventure criteria of the Gaisce & DoE awards. Located right on the Wicklow Way we are almost half way between Glendalough (9km South) and Crone Wood (16km north). The Wicklow Way has a mixture of forest tracks and mountain board walk and the route is “way marked” with posts so it is navigationally secure for inexperienced groups.

Lough Dan is the perfect overnight location with toilets, hot showers, wet weather shelter, fire wood and waste disposal facilities. Outdoor education applies to the “camp Chores” as much as to the adventure part of your trip. As a volunteer run center we may not have staff present mid week and either way it is not our job to clean up after groups. It is the responsibility of the teachers/leaders in charge of the group of ensuring you Leave the place better than you found it and for implementing the Leave No trace principles.

We do not have camping equipment for hire (tents & stoves) so you need to be self sufficient.

We provide fire barrels and fire wood but you need to give careful consideration to menu planning for open fire cooking (small groups of students planning pasta and rice meals rather than umpteen individual meals). A sink for cleaning dishes is located behind the shower block so that the indoor sinks in the toilet block are not used for this purpose..

Camping is available all year round but the use of the hostel by school and Gaisce groups is restricted to mid-week use only.
