Lough Dan is primarily a campsite and we pride ourselves on our beautiful green and clean camping space. With four separate camping fields, there is plenty of space. Located iin the middle of the Wicklow Mountains it is the ideal Base Camp and Gateway to all that the area has to offer.
An onsite car park allows for a secure place to park your car / mini-bus and track access to most of the site allows for set-down of equipment. Cars are not allowed onto the camping field under any circumstances.
Water points are arranged along the campsite for easy access.
Toilet block equipped with showers and hot water.
A wet weather shelter for when the weather doesn’t co operate
Metal Altar fires, fire wood and some picnic tables are available
We have set up a waste management unit where you can segregate your waste. We have Wheelie bins for clean glass and jars, drinks cans, batteries, metal goods recyclables as well as for general waste. The site promotes the Leave No Trace principles and is managed as an Eco-Park where nature and wildlife are respected.
All on-site self-lead activities are included in the camp fee e.g. orienteering, rafting, pioneering, eco-base, swanaboree, nature trail etc. If you intend to go swimming it is your responsibility to ensure that it is properly supervised as Lough Dan does not provide life guards. Diving is not permitted due to submerged rocks.
While we think Lough Dan is a fantastic site don’t limit yourself to the campsite. The Wicklow Way runs adjacent to the site so you can get to Lough Dan on foot from Dublin and Glenmalure as well as from Rathdrum via the Avonmore Trail or from Hollywood and Valleymount in West Wicklow via St Kevin’s way. Located right in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains National Park we recommend if you are only staying for a short stay to “Pitch & Get Out” into all that Wild Wicklow has to offer and where you are bound to reconnect with nature.
