Orienteering is a great way to learn how to read a map. The centre has its own orienteering map and we have set up a short course on the site. Laminated maps can be borrowed from the activity room in the office. Each marker post has a painted top and some day-glow material to make them easier to find. They also have a pin-punch to record you have been there.
You can operate it several ways either doing a circular route with pairs sent out at timed intervals finding one marker after the other or better still just set a specific time period with all teams setting off together with the aim of getting as many punches as possible within the given time frame say 45 minutes.
